Did you know something as simple as lint could be causing your phone’s charging port to malfunction? In our recent repair recap video, we share an easy fix and preventative tip that can save you from costly repairs.

How to Prevent Damage to Your Phone’s Charging Port: A Repair Recap

One of our recent customers brought in her husband’s Samsung device that wasn’t charging properly. The issue? A simple buildup of lint inside the charge port. Believe it or not, this is a common problem not just for Samsungs but for all devices, including iPhones and Androids.

Here’s what often happens: dirt, lint, or even particles from rice (if you’ve ever tried the “rice method” for drying a wet phone) can accumulate in the charge port. Over time, this buildup prevents the charging cable from fitting correctly, causing your device to not charge properly.

The problem is most typical in men because they are often shoving their phones down into their pockets which forces lint into the open port.

The best part? Most of the time, it just needs a clean! Using fine tools and a microscope, we were able to fish out the lint and get that phone charging like new.

But there’s a catch: If you keep forcing the cable in despite the obstruction, you’re risking damage to the charge port. The repeated pressure can loosen the internal components, leading to expensive repairs down the line. It’s a simple fix, but it requires a little care.

So, if you’re noticing that your device isn’t charging properly, or if you’ve dropped your phone in rice (and we’ve all been there), be sure to get it checked out before more serious damage occurs.
